TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Tallahassee
Amateur Radio Society periodically sponsors Amateur
Radio License classes. The next Technician
License class will start on February 17th.
The classes are once again, being held at the
Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross on
187 Office Plaza Drive. For more information about
these classes, please contact Phil Ashler (N4IPH).
Here is a flyer (in Adobe PDF format) you can
download and print or distribute to your friends or
other interested parties.

The classes
usually cover the necessary FCC rules & regulations,
electronic theory, and operating practices for
the Technician Class Amateur Radio License.
The Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL)
publication
The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual, first
edition, will be used as the study guide, and should
be purchased before the class starts. The cost
of the book is around $25, plus tax and shipping.
You can order the text directly from the
American Radio Relay League
(1-888-277-5289). You can also order the text
from your favorite book store.
The specific
objective of these classes (other
than to have fun) is to promote interest in
Amateur Radio, and strengthen the emergency response
capabilities within our region, and elsewhere.
Even if you're not interested in emergency
response or disaster relief communications, and just
want to get an amateur radio license, or are
intrigued by how radio works, you are more than
welcome to attend the classes.
The training will
be geared toward the entry-level Technician class
amateur radio license, which has no Morse Code
requirement. Class time will be partitioned,
however, and the Morse Code will be presented in the
first portion of each class day.
The classes are
open to the general public, and are free of charge.
The Technician
class license examination consists of 35 questions,
and a 75% score or better is the passing grade.
You can also find the entire Technician class
question pool, and associated diagrams further down
the page.
There is a
testing fee of $14 at the conclusion of the
training, to cover the costs of examination
materials and postage for sending in the results.
Attendees will be able to sit for an exam at the
next regular testing session.
Information on testing sessions
can be found here.
If you would like
to get a head start on the the material, feel free
to download
this primer. It is a Microsoft PowerPoint
presentation. OK, so you don't' have
PowerPoint?
Then click here
to view the presentation via your
Internet Explorer browser. Going through
all the slides in one sitting will probably take a
few hours. The presentation consists of 240+
slides, so feel free to come back whenever you want,
if you don't have PowerPoint installed on your
computer.
The following
question pools should also help you study for your
exams. These are Adobe Acrobat Reader files.
